Obese Patients Are AT Risk During Anesthesia

Obese patients are at risk for serious complications during anaesthesia.

According to a recent study, obese persons are twice as likely and severely obese four times as likely to develop air way complications while under general anaesthesia.

Obese persons have a body mass index (BMI) of 30-35, severely a BMI of over 35.
A healthy BMI is 18.5 to 24.9.

Obesity On The Rise Worldwide

According to research  the number of  obese people worldwide has double since 1980.

Figures:
In 1980 5% of men were obese and 8% of women.
In 2008 10% of men were obese and 14 % of women.

This means 205 million men and 297 million women have a body mass index (BMI) of over 30,
 
At the same time, 1.5 billion are overweight with a body mass index of over 25.

A body mass index of 18:5 to 24.9 is healthy weight.

Parents Can Prevent Kids Indulging In Unhealthy Snacks

Childhood obesity is on the rise and parents are important resources in preventing it.

According to a recent study on Kids & Snacks, children are over snacking on junk food, a cause of childhood obesity. They are consuming 3 of these snacks per day plus three meals.
