For severely obese persons who have not had success with diet modification, physical activity or other weight loss treatment methods, surgery can be done.

In a recent study 30 private and publicly funded weight loss clinics were surveyed in Canada.


The survey examined information such as:

  • Wait time for surgery
  • Surgeon's experience
  • Cost
  • Number and type of pre and post-operative appointments
  • Location of service
  • Availability of on-site critical care

Before you set goals to do so, you must know your weight health status. Firstly there is a healthy weight and an unhealthy one.

 You can use the tools on this post to assess your weight health status:

1-BMI (Body mass index): 

A  healthy BMI is 18.5-24.9
Underweight is a BMI of less than 18 (You wouldn't be setting weight loss goals)
