If you are travelling during the holidays here are some helpful tips to make your trip as healthy, pleasant and stress free as possible.

 Firstly you can still focus on your diet and exercise even though you are away from home.

Dietary
Keep your diet in check by planning for healthy meals.

Plan your meals in advance.

Don't miss breakfast. If you will be on the road at breakfast time, pack a breakfast to take with you.

Whether at home or travelling, keep your breakfast low in calories, save the larger calorie meals for lunch or dinner.

Opt for low fat milk products, low fat cereals, fruits, eggs, nuts, peanuts, 100% fruit juice, whole grain products etc.

Remember to limit the sweetened beverages wherever you are.

Get in at least two servings of Vegetables & Fruit at breakfast.

Avoid the holiday splurge-and-starve cycle.

Skip the inflight cocktails, coffee, alcohol and caffeinated beverages .

Go for water instead.Take bottled water with you or take a bottle which you can fill.


Exercise
Keep active, it will boost your energy and mood while travelling.

Use comfortable footwear so you can walk or stand while waiting.

Plan family activities around fitness.

Plug in to stay on track.

If travelling by car take breaks every 2- 3 hours to stretch and walk around.

Take your diet and activity journal to keep records, you will need it to keep track for you. 


Rest And De-stress
  • Get a full nights sleep the night before.
  • Have your packing done early.
  • Leave yourself plenty of time to get there
  • Prepare for unexpected delays.
  • Make use of in-flight pillows, eye masks and blankets.
